a private South Haven wedding

Mary's brought more than just love into Nick's life. She also brought him up to speed on the etiquette of chili-eating (with sour cream, of course). And together, these two celebrate life, love to travel, and enjoy long walks in the woods with their gorgeous pup, Bella. With their need for each almost palpable, I knew their wedding day would be of the biggest celebrations of love I'd lucky enough to have been a part of.

Nick and Mary journey to this piece of Southwest Michigan for weekends away: sweet retreats from the craziness of life. Their piece of land - known as "The Complex" - has hosted their family and friends for years, and it was no surprise they'd share this space again while exchanging wedding vows. With their ceremony outside and zero back-up plans besides the white reception tent, tension was high as clouds came barreling through bringing wind and rain.

But I knew that nothing could stop us from making lemonade out of lemons, and boy, was the day ever sweet. We allowed plenty of time for portraits (thank you!) that allowed us to dodge the rain and ended up having a sunny ceremony and the most gorgeous, dramatic setting at the beach. They danced all night (even when the power went out!) and had a fantastic firework send-off.

I'd do this day over and over again with you, Mary & Nick, and I wouldn't change a thing! I hope you enjoy reliving it through this blog; I can't wait to share your entire gallery! And Internet friends? If you're here for those beach portraits, scroll to the middle because you won't want to miss those!
